Fairbanks

Fairbanks is located in the heart of Alaska and has a population of
roughly 100,000. The end of June is characterized by little precipitation and
average daily temperatures of roughly 20°C (68°F) but peaks up to 30°C (86°F) may occur.
In the last 54 years the highest measured June temperature in Fairbanks was 36°C, the record low June temperature in Fairbanks was -1°C. Fairbanks usually receives an average of 35.6 mm of precipitation during June.

The surroundings offer plenty of scope for glaciological, geological and
geographical excursions with the Alaska Range including Denali National Park only
a 2 hour drive away.

The meeting will be held in the Ballroom of the Wood Center on campus of the University of Alaska, Fairbanks.

Parking during work-days 8 am - 5 pm is available on campus for a fee ($3 per day). Only the eastern part of the Taku parking lot is free of charge. On week-ends and during all other times parking is free across campus. Note due to heavy construction work on campus many of the parking lots are closed (see map in practical information file with recommended parking options during summer).

Public transportation
Note that public transportation is very limited in Fairbanks, especially during summer.
If you do not stay on campus or in the Alpine Lodge you mostly likely will need
to rent a car since most hotels are beyond walking distance from campus.
